These BLOCKS & WEDGES are a part of the RAYCAST HP Head and Neck Solution and of the “AIO SOLUTION SETS”. They are used in combination with HP HEAD SUPPORTS, BASE PLATES and the EFFICAST® PRE-CUTS to form a reproducible patient positioning and immobilisation device in the field of radiotherapy. In combination with the HP Head Supports, the blocks and the wedges offer a solution to position the patient’s head at various heights and with a range of extension or flexion angles.

We offer two blocks (2 cm and 4 cm height) and three wedges (9°, 13.5° and 18°). You can position the wedges in two directions, to create either flexion or extension.

Thanks to the straightforward click system, you can easily stack the blocks and wedges on top of each other. If possible use no more than two blocks or wedges to ensure optimal stability.

The blocks and wedges come in a low density and high density version that can be used during both simulation and treatment. A separate set of blocks and wedges (white set) is suitable for MRI simulation.

Physical Properties

The following physical properties apply to these devices:

Material: Carbon Fibre Laminate
Density: Low
Interface: Round
Dimensions: L 230 x W 120 x H 25 mm to 88 mm
Weight: 0.11 kg – 0.19 kg

Mechanical Properties

These devices are made of a carbon fibre laminate and should be handled with care. The devices used on the treatment machines are often used more frequently than those on the simulators and during the
imaging stages. We therefore recommend rotating the sets between the different machines on a regular base to avoid differences in wear and tear of these devices.

Dosimetric Properties

These head supports are made of low density foam that has the following dosimetric properties per cm of material through which the beam passes:

Attenuation (± 0.15%)
Skin build-up (± 0.1 mm)
6 MV 15 MV mm H2O equivalence
0.6% 0.5% 2.20

Note: Use these numbers as a guidance only. Perform the measurements again in your department to verify these results.
