Samsung ultrasound in Switzerland: service, training and warranty explained

Introduction

What happens after you buy a Samsung ultrasound system in Switzerland: installation, applications training, warranty, service contracts, loan equipment and probe repair, explained by Meditron, Samsung Healthcare partner since 2012.

In short: The system is only half of what you buy. The other half is what happens afterwards: installation and DICOM connection, applications training for the team, the manufacturer warranty, a service contract with preventive maintenance and loan equipment, and someone who repairs a probe in Switzerland rather than shipping it abroad. Meditron SA has been Samsung Healthcare's partner in Switzerland since 2012 and does all of this from Rolle and Frauenfeld, in German, French and Italian.

Key takeaways

  • Installation, DICOM connection to your practice software and a first applications training are part of a Swiss quote, not extras.

  • New Samsung systems carry the manufacturer warranty; a service contract extends cover to preventive maintenance, repairs, loan equipment and software updates.

  • Probes are the part that fails most often. Ask who repairs or replaces them, how fast, and whether a loan probe bridges the gap.

  • Training is what decides whether the team uses the automation. Plan two sessions: at go-live and after a few weeks.

  • Service in Switzerland means a Swiss engineer, Swiss spare-parts stock and support in your language.

What does installation include?

A Samsung system from Meditron arrives configured for your examinations: the probe set and software packages you chose, presets for your specialty, user accounts for the team. The engineer sets up the system in the room, checks image quality with each probe and connects it to your practice software or PACS over DICOM, so images and reports land in the patient record without extra clicks. The handover ends with a first training session on the system you will use, not on a demo unit.

What to prepare: the room (power, network socket, space to move the system), the DICOM details of your practice software or PACS, and a list of the examinations you perform most. The 90-day checklist walks through the weeks that follow.

How does applications training work?

Automation only saves time when the team knows it is there. Meditron's applications specialists train on site, with your patients' typical examinations, and come back a few weeks later for a second session once the team has questions from daily use. The second session is where presets get adjusted, measurement packages get switched on and reporting templates are set up.

Training covers the system in use, not a general ultrasound course. For the SGUM certificate needed to bill ultrasound examinations in Switzerland, the courses run through the professional societies; Meditron can point you to them.

What does the warranty cover?

New Samsung systems sold by Meditron carry the manufacturer warranty, and Meditron is the party that honours it in Switzerland: diagnosis, repair or replacement, with original Samsung parts. Certified pre-owned systems from Meditron carry a Meditron warranty, stated in the quote. A warranty from a seller abroad is hard to enforce in Switzerland, which is one reason marketplace prices look lower than they are; the pre-owned guide goes into that.

The warranty terms, the length and what is excluded are written into every Meditron quote. Ask for them before you compare offers.

What is in a service contract, and do I need one?

A service contract extends cover beyond the warranty for a set number of years and usually includes:

  • Preventive maintenance: a yearly check of image quality, probes, mechanics, safety and software.

  • Repairs and parts: labour, travel and original parts, with agreed response times.

  • Loan equipment: a loan system or probe while yours is repaired, so the practice keeps scanning.

  • Software updates: the current software versions and security updates for the platform.

Whether you need one depends on how much the system earns per day. At a few examinations a week, a repair-on-demand arrangement may be enough. At 20 or more examinations a day, a day without a system costs more than the yearly contract. Meditron quotes service contracts with the system so the total cost over the planned lifetime is visible from the start.

Who repairs probes?

Probes are the component that needs repair most often: cables, lenses and connectors wear with daily use. Three questions matter: who repairs or replaces the probe, how long it takes, and whether you get a loan probe meanwhile. Meditron handles probe diagnosis and replacement in Switzerland and keeps common Samsung probes available, so an endocavity or convex probe failure does not stop the practice for weeks.

Why does "service in Switzerland" matter?

Three practical reasons. A Swiss engineer can be in the practice within days, not weeks. Spare parts and loan equipment are held in Switzerland, so repairs do not wait for customs. And support is in your language, German, French or Italian, from people who know the Swiss practice software and billing rules. Meditron has installed more than 1,000 Samsung ultrasound systems in Switzerland since 2012 and services them from Rolle (VD) and Frauenfeld (TG).
