Introduction

There is no pre-set package price. What drives the cost of a Samsung ultrasound system, purchase versus leasing versus pre-owned, what to prepare for a quote, and the questions to ask any supplier.

In short: Samsung ultrasound systems have no list price in Switzerland because every system is configured to the practice. The price is set by five things: the model, the probes, the software packages, the service contract and how you finance it. Meditron SA, the official Samsung Healthcare distributor in Switzerland, prepares a written, itemised quote within a few working days after a short conversation about your exams.

Key takeaways

  • No list prices: the same model can differ by a factor of two depending on probes and packages.

  • The five price drivers are model tier, probes, software packages, service contract and financing.

  • Purchase gives the lowest total cost, leasing the lowest entry cost, certified pre-owned the lowest price for a given model.

  • A Swiss quote includes delivery, installation, DICOM connection and applications training; a marketplace listing does not.

  • Prepare your specialty, exam volume, probe wishes and practice software before asking for a quote.

Why is there no list price for a Samsung ultrasound system?

Because a medical ultrasound system is not a single product. The console is the base; the probes, the imaging software and the service agreement are chosen to match the exams a practice performs. Two practices buying the same Samsung V8 can end up with configurations that differ by a factor of two, because one needs a single convex probe for abdominal routine and the other needs four probes plus elastography and contrast imaging. That is why Samsung, like every ultrasound manufacturer, does not publish list prices, and why prices you find on foreign marketplaces rarely describe a comparable configuration.

What drives the price of an ultrasound system?

Five factors, in order of impact:

1. The model tier. Samsung's range runs from compact systems for routine diagnostics (V4, V5, V6) through mid-range general imaging systems (V7, V8) to premium platforms for women's health (HERA Z20) and radiology with intervention (R20). Monitor size, image processing and automation increase with each tier.

2. The probes. Probes are the largest variable after the console. A basic configuration has one or two probes (convex and linear); a gynaecology practice adds an endocavity probe; cardiology needs a sector probe; obstetrics may add a 3D/4D volume probe. Each probe is a separate line on the quote.

3. Software packages. Advanced features such as elastography (ElastoScan), contrast-enhanced ultrasound, liver quantification (EzHRI™, TAI™, TSI™) or automated obstetric measurements are licensed options. You pay only for the packages your exams need.

4. Service contract. A service agreement covers preventive maintenance, repairs, loan equipment and software updates over a set number of years. It can be included in the purchase or leasing price or contracted separately.

5. Financing. Purchase, leasing or a certified pre-owned system change the entry cost and the total cost; see the comparison below.

Delivery, installation, DICOM integration with your practice software and applications training by Meditron specialists are itemised in the quote, not a surprise afterwards.

Which price tier does each Samsung model fall into?

Tier

Models

Typical use

What sets the price

Compact

V4, V5, V6

General practice, routine diagnostics, small rooms, mobile use

Number of probes; optional battery (V6)

Mid-range

V7, V8

General imaging, internal medicine, MSK, mixed practices

Probes, quantification packages, monitor option (up to 27" OLED)

Premium

HERA Z20, R20

Gynaecology and obstetrics (HERA Z20); radiology and intervention (R20)

Probe set, 3D/4D and AI packages, departmental configuration

Within each tier the configuration matters more than the model name. A well-equipped V8 can cost more than a basic HERA Z20.

What does an ultrasound system cost over its lifetime?

Practices usually keep an ultrasound system for seven to ten years, so the purchase price is only part of the cost. Four items decide the rest:

  • Service and maintenance. Probes are the component most likely to need repair or replacement. A service contract with probe cover protects against the largest unplanned expense.

  • Software updates. Samsung releases feature and security updates; whether they are included depends on the service agreement.

  • Training. A system the team uses to its full extent pays off faster. Meditron provides applications training at installation and on request afterwards.

  • Resale value. Samsung systems with a documented service history hold their value on the pre-owned market and can be traded in.

Purchase, leasing or pre-owned: which option fits?

Purchase

Leasing

Monthly instalments, typically over 3 to 5 years

Lower price for the same model

Total cost

Lowest

Higher, spread over the term

Low; depends on age and warranty

Technology

Current model, your configuration

Current model; upgrade option at end of term

Previous generation, previous owner's probes

Warranty and service

Full manufacturer warranty; service contract optional

Usually bundled with service

Meditron warranty; service contract optional

Best for

Established practices with capital

New practices; keeping technology current

Second room, starting practice, limited budget

Meditron arranges leasing on request and sells checked pre-owned Samsung systems with warranty subject to availability. See new or pre-owned: what to check before buying.

How do I get a quote, and what should I prepare?

Four steps, usually within two weeks:

  1. Tell us about your exams. Specialty, the exams you perform most, roughly how many per day, and the practice software or PACS you use.

  2. We propose a configuration. Model, probes and packages matched to those exams, with alternatives at different price points.

  3. Demo in your practice. Meditron demonstrates the proposed system on site so you can scan with the proposed probes and settings.

  4. Written quote. Purchase and leasing options, service contract, installation and training, all itemised.

Have ready: your specialty and SGUM modules, the exams and rough volume per day, the probes you use today, the room size, your practice software, and whether you want to trade in an existing system.

Request a quote or book a demo.

Which questions should I ask any ultrasound supplier?

  • Is the quote itemised by console, probes, software packages, service, installation and training?

  • Which probes are included, and what does an additional probe cost?

  • What does the service contract cover, for how long, and does it include probes and loan equipment?

  • Are the system and probes CE-marked and placed on the Swiss market in line with Swissmedic requirements?

  • Who installs the system, connects DICOM to my practice software and trains the team?

  • What is the response time for service in my region, and where is the nearest engineer?

  • What is the trade-in value of my current system?
